In this case, why do we need to live alone? Why not be dependent and live with our families instead, isn’t that easier? Yes, it is. At some point, we need to get out of our comfort zone. Getting out of it is terrifying, as it will bring out a lot of changes in our lives. Although it is true, there are some good points about living alone.
Positive sides of living on our own
Below, are some good points of living alone or abroad, outside of our family.
Getting to know yourself better
By living alone, we will gain more knowledge about ourselves. This is because we will be away from all of the expectations of living together, or some ‘burden’. Living alone is the chance for us to explore another part of ourselves that we didn’t get the chance to before. Some might feel free, especially if you don’t like being controlled or being told what to do.
Other than that, it’s a way for us to have a conversation with ourselves, about what we like to do, what are we planning to do. We also make the decisions for ourselves, making our own mistakes, fixing them, and such. This is a great point for our development, as this will be a learning process for ourselves. Especially if it’s out of our comfort zone. Getting out of it will might even make us more mature.
Survival skills
Other than knowing ourselves better, we’ll also gain a set of survival skills by living alone. Some of the survival skills might be like cooking for ourselves, cleaning for ourselves, and doing a lot of things on our own. Psychologically, it will lead us toward solving our problems, making new friends, and dealing with emergencies or crucial situations. This will definitely help in the long run. Socializing as well is going to be tested.
Other things to note while living on our own
Even though living on our own can be a good thing, there are some things to deal with as well.
Loneliness
I guess one of the downsides would be you might feel lonely at some times. But, this can be done by reaching out to others, socializing, or try to go out and join some other activities. Remember, if it’s too much, don’t be afraid to reach out to someone you trust or professionals. From my perspective, this feeling might also lead to gaining necessary survival skills as well: dealing with ourselves and feeling lonely.
Adjustments
For some people, adjusting may be another problem or downside as well. Being out of our comfort zone will result in re-adjusting ourselves, how we live, and starting over. It would be hard sometimes, but I guess this will also help us to be independent and gain more valuable skills as well. Also, as stated before, if it’s too much, reach out to someone or professionals!
Notes
From this, I think the takeaway would be, even though there are some hard parts in living by our own, there are still some positive sides and valuable skills that we might have gained. Especially by moving out of our comfort zone and starting again from zero, it’ll help on making us understand ourselves better and gain some survival skills.
